Prayerful Ponderings ... Ten or One Thousand?

1. “Beware of bringing out a truth before you have developed it.” (D. Prince 7/28/77 Kansas City)

“The ‘deep well’ approach- Don’t get too excited over what you are going to do! Put it away for a while and if it keeps coming back you will know it is time.” (Charlotte Sigl 10/27/78)

2. “Ten men acting together can make a hundred thousand tremble apart.” (Crosier House retreat, Mirabeau- 5/10/77)

3. “When you make a big decision of faith, then you can build on it.” (Ernie Chamberlain, NCGRC Board 1/11/78)

4. “If we answer the call to discipleship where will it lead us? It matters not where, I can but follow Him.” ( Bonhoeffer 5/20/77)

2006-February 17-REFLECTION~

How have these principles affected my life over the past 21 years? I needed to pay when I brought out a truth too soon. Over and over, “discipleship” became the one burning truth and vision the Lord would not let me forget.

Marilyn once said, “Bob you aren’t a leader unless you have men following you.” How often today do preachers want 1,000 men, when they (we) already have ten waiting to be discipled?

“So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me … to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets tough,, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did.” (II Timothy 2:2- the Message)
